When working within Audiences, those with permissions to view the Audience (for example, Site Managers), will see two tabs named:
- Enrolled Learning
- Visible Learning
Both of the above settings have different meanings and could impact on what learning learners see on their Record of Learning. Below explains the difference between the two:
Enrolled Learning
Enrolled learning are the courses in which the audience are enrolled onto, this means that if the audience is set up to be dynamic, once a user is pulled into the audience through the rule sets they will automatically be enrolled onto the Courses, Programs or Certifications that sit within this tab. Users within the audiences will be able to go to their Record of Learning and begin taking the courses, should audience based visibility be set to allow this. This is explained more below.
This will automatically update should an audience be enrolled onto a course via the Enrolled Audience section within the course itself:
If learning is added via this tab, all users within that audience will automatically be enrolled onto learning and going forward any users automatically added (via dynamic rule sets) will be enrolled onto the courses.
As stated above, courses can be added in bulk to Audiences therefore automatically enrolling them onto the courses.
Multiple courses can be added from here:
Once saved, these courses will now appear under the Enrolled Learning tab of that Audience
The same steps can be repeated with both courses and Programs
Visible Learning
Visible Learning works differently to Enrolled Learning, visible learning is where audiences can be given visibility of courses but not actually be enrolled onto them. This is typically paired with courses that allow for Self Enrolment, however if an audience is tagged within the course settings under Audience Based Visibility then it will show under here.
When setting up Audience based visibility, those who are within the audience will have access to the course and be able to take the course (if enrolled or have the option to self enrol). This is particularly helpful when allowing users browse courses through the course catalogue. If the users are enrolled however do not have visibility of the course, they may receive an error message.
Below outlines what each of the options under Audience Based visibility will do:
- No users - Meaning that no one apart from those with the correct permissions will have access to the course.
- Enrolled users only - Only those who are enrolled will have access to the course.
- Enrolled users and members of the selected audiences - Those enrolled and if audiences are attached will be able to view the course and if enabled self enrol onto the course.
- All users - All users on the site have visibility of the course.
Visible Learning can also be updated in the same method as Enrolled Learning above.
