Leaderboards can be used within learning experiences to rank and reward learners and encourage a sense of competition. They can only be used in "Undertake an online course" learning experiences. Leaderboards cannot be applied to individual objects within learning experiences, they can't be applied to playlists, and they can't be applied platform-wide.
Where are they displayed?
The location and availability of leaderboards within a learning experience depend on how the learning experience is configured. Click here to read about the various LX settings.
| If the learning experience has the game type set to linear, non-linear or branching, and the level view is set to object list view, there will be a LEADERBOARDS button on the learning experience home page. | |
| If the learning experience has the game type set to classic, the overall leaderboard will appear on the learning experience homepage along with a link to view the others. | |
| The leaderboards will not be displayed if the level view is set to List View. |
What do they measure?
They rank learners based on the following criteria:
- Total score (The total XP plus a single point awarded for each comment upvote received, each upvote received on a contribution, each upvote received on a discussion gate comment, and each upvote received on a contribution gate.)
- Course XP (Total XP received across all objects in this learning experience.)
- Most added objects (Total contributions made across all user contributions objects in the learning experience.)
- Most comments (Total comments made across all objects in the learning experience.)
- Most object views (Total objects viewed across the entire learning experience.)
- Most comment vote points (Total upvotes received on comments across the entire learning experience.)
Customising them
The default settings for leaderboards can be configured in Settings > Edit Organisation > Default Game Settings.
| If Leaderboard Opt Out is ticked, new users will be excluded from all leaderboards by default. They can change this by editing their profile and unticking the box. | |
| The Leaderboard Opt Out Type changes the way that learners are excluded from the leaderboards. If set to Hidden learners simply won't appear in the leaderboards, if set to Anonymous they will appear without a name. |
