The Learning Platform provides eCommerce functionality in two different ways. Simple ecommerce in-platform, and through integrations with specialist third-party ecommerce platforms such as Shopify and BigCommerce.
In-Platform eCommerce
The eCommerce functionality in the Learning Platform allows course creators to sell their content and track sales directly through the platform, monetise their content and provide a seamless experience for users to discover, purchase, and access learning experiences within the Learning Platform.
Summary of the key features:
- Payment processing: The Learning Platform integrates with Stripe for handling credit and debit card payments, supporting Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
- VAT collection: Course creators can enable VAT collection and use the VAT API service to manage VAT payments.
- Discounts and vouchers: The platform supports the creation of discount codes and vouchers, which can be used to provide special offers or allow businesses to purchase courses in bulk for their staff.
- Product setup: Course creators can easily transform their learning experiences into purchasable products by setting a price, currency, and other details.
- Access control: The Learning Platform's settings for learning experiences (public, secret, self-enrollment) determine how users can discover and purchase the courses.
- Marketing integration: While the Learning Platform doesn't provide a built-in marketing site, course creators can link their external marketing pages to the Learning Platform. Users can register on the Learning Platform and then be directed to the payment page for the specific course they want to purchase.
- User journey:
- New users: The typical user journey involves discovering the learning experience on the promotional page, registering on the Learning Platform (if not already registered), completing the payment, and then being enrolled in the learning experience with access to its content.
- Existing users: Typically users will find the learning experience through search, recommendations, or the Discover page on the Learning Platform, or via a link to the learning experience through a marketing email, SMS, WhatsApp, etc. They are prompted to pay, and then they are automatically enrolled on to the learning experience.
Third-party eCommerce - Shopify, BigCommerce, etc.
The Learning Platform’s Shopify and BigCommerce integrations, allow you to trigger workflows based on events in your third-party store, such as purchases, cancellations, and refunds and create a seamless journey between your eCommerce store and your learning platform.
Automatic enrollment of users in learning experiences upon purchase streamlines the process of granting access to learning content. Workflows can also include communications via email, SMS, Slack, MS Teams.. Inbound and outbound integrations from other business systems such as CRM (e.g. Salesforce) can also be done through automated workflows.
Whilst we have existing integrations with Shopify and BigCommerce, the platform is able to integrate with any third-party eCommerce system that can send and receive webhooks.
This integration is particularly useful for businesses that sell learning materials as part of their product or service offering, as it significantly reduces the time it takes for customers to access their purchased learning content, leading to increased engagement and adoption rates. Using a specialist third-party eCommerce platform brings the following benefits:
- Multi-channel selling e.g. buy-buttons on other websites and apps, social media, physical media, etc.
- Enterprise-grade search engine optimisation and PPC optimisation including microdata
- Greater volume and depth of eCommerce reporting
- Large number of available payment providers including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Summary of key features:
- Linking learning experiences in the Learning Platform to products in the third-party store
Triggering automated workflows based on order creation, cancellation, and refund events for single and multi-product orders - Automatically enrolling users in learning experiences upon purchase
- Handling refunds and cancellations by revoking access to learning content
- Accessing a wide range of third-party eCommerce data for use in workflows (e.g. order value, order date, product information, user details, etc.)
- Triggering communication campaigns and changes in third-party systems
Data Connector
Using our Data Connector, we can pipe all of your learning data from the learning platform into your own data warehouses and/or BI tools. This enables you to combine learning data with eCommerce data and other business data to provide a full picture of the return on investment, impact, outcomes, efficacy and efficiency of your sales and learning.
