There are a few different ways to assign learning to learners. Learners are enrolled on every LX that's assigned to them but not every LX that they're enrolled on is displayed as "Assigned Learning" on the dashboard. There are two other types of enrolment:
- Mandatory (which is explained below)
- Learners can enrol themselves on LXs with self-enrolment enabled. Click here to read about setting an LX to allow self-enrolment.
How to assign LXs in the front-end
The easiest way to assign LXs to learners is on the dashboard. Managers can assign individual LXs to learners by hovering over the LX, clicking the and selecting Assign.
From here, select the learners you would like to enrol and click ASSIGN:
If this option doesn't appear for you, there are a couple of things to check. Firstly, make sure that you are a manager and you have your employees assigned to you (click here to read more about job roles). The other thing to check is that you have enabled the content assignment service. To do this, go to Admin > Settings > Services:
Click Content Assignment and make sure that both checkboxes are checked:
When you assign LXs using this method, details of who assigned the LX will be included in the joined xAPI statement sent to the LRS. Click here to read more about xAPI.

You can enrol individual learners, multiple learners, and groups via the learning experience menu. Click here to read more about this.
You can link a group to a learning experience so that new members are automatically enrolled. Click here to learn more about groups, and click here to learn more about linked groups in LXs.
Learning experiences will be assigned to learners when they are added to a playlist or they add a playlist themselves. Click here to read more about playlists.
The difference between assigned and mandatory
Mandatory learning experiences are learning experiences that learners have been assigned but have also been marked as mandatory.
Learning experiences can be marked as mandatory for everyone enrolled on them in the learning experience menu. Click here to read more.
A learner experience can be marked as mandatory for specific leaners by editing their enrolment in the LX menu. Click here to read more.
