Summary: Personas group together different accounts belonging to the same person so that they can be easily referenced as a single entity.
Your data may contain people who have multiple accounts across the systems that are sending xAPI statements to your Learning Record Store. To accurately track which individual a statement relates to, the Learning Record Store creates a unique reference known as a persona. This holds their unique identifiers, usually an email address or user account, and other attributes such as first name and last name. Manually changing personas lets you group the statements of one person using multiple accounts.
When you go to People > Manage you will see a list of personas:
Identifiers
Identifiers are pieces of information that are unique to a specific user. When you click on the arrow next to a persona, you'll see the IDENTIFIERS tab:
You can add four different types of identifier:
- Email: When adding a new email address identifier, all that is required is the email address of the person you are adding. The prefix mailto: will be added automatically.
- Encrypted email: This is the same as the above option, but the email is stored in an encrypted format rather than in plaintext.
- Open ID: Open ID is an open standard authentication protocol that you can use as an identifier in the Learning Record Store. Click here to find out more about Open ID.
- Web Accounts: When adding a new account using a website and user id, be sure to add the full website address (including http[s]://).
Attributes
Attributes can contain any information you would like them to. Include information that you will find useful when filtering your personas. For example, you might include their name, job title, and department. This information can be retrieved and used by Automation . Click here to read more about using persona attributes in automation .
To add an attribute, simply click + Add Attribute:
Note: The attribute name cannot be changed once the attribute has been added, to change this field you will need to delete the attribute and make it again.
Merge
If you have two personas that you know relate to the same person you can use the merge tab to combine them. Merging combines all of the statements from the two personas into the final merged persona. After one persona is merged into another, the original persona is deleted and the target persona inherits all identifiers and attributes that belonged to the (now deleted) original persona. Learning Record Store will never overwrite attributes. Any attributes from another persona will be added to the existing ones.
To merge a persona, select it from the Choose an option dropdown and click Merge Personas:
Journeys
If a journey is set to Track by persona then a summary of progress will be shown in this tab. When a journey is repeatable you can expand the listing to see progress on previous attempts:
