Creating a new course
With a Poet Authoring Licence – (Not OTS customer)
1. On the course list/landing page, click the '+ CREATE NEW COURSE' button to create a new course:
2. On the 'Create a course from scratch' page, 'name your course ' then press the 'CONTINUE' button:
You will now follow a 4-step process to create your course structure:
Step 1: Brainstorm Key Concepts -
Step 2: Categorize Key concepts -
Step 3: Prioritise Key Concepts –
Step 4: Set Up Content Map
3. Press the 'CONTINUE' button to go to Step 1:
Step 1 - Brainstorm your Key Concepts
What key concepts do your learners need to know?
Think about everything you want to include in the course.
4. Add your course key concepts here (as few or as many as you like) – don't worry, you can always add some later if you forget any –
5. Press the 'CONTINUE' button to proceed to Step 2 when you have added all the course key concepts:
Step 2 - Categorize Key Concepts
6. Drag and drop your key concept into categories (you can add more than one Key Concept per category)
Group concepts into categories based on relevance or natural fit. Think of categories as chapters in a book. They are the first building blocks of a course.
7. Press the 'CONTINUE' button to progress to Step 3:
Step 3 - Prioritize your Key Concepts
Which of these Concepts (or Learning Objectives do you want to test learnerson?
8. Check the ones you want to test on (must be one per Category)
NB You can always, remove or move Key concepts here
9. Press the 'CONTINUE' button to progress to Step 4:
Step 4 - Your Content Map
The Key Concepts from Step 3 will become the categories that learners will complete as they work through the course.
If your content is not in the correct order, press the 'EDIT' button to return to Step 3.
or if you are ready to proceed,
10. Press the 'CREATE CONTENT MAP' button
You will now see a preview of which Key Concepts are going to become your course material (learning objectives).
11. Press the 'CONTINUE' button
Each Learning Objective requires at least one activity - the course creation tool will add a new activity and an image and text slide (Don’t worry, you can always update, edit, and add more activities later.)
12. Press the 'CONTINUE' button
13. Toggle on the Title Screen button
14. Press the 'CONTINUE' button
15. Toggle on the Analytics button/Learner Performance (if required)
16. Press the 'CONTINUE' button
Your content Map is now complete
17. Press the 'Start Editing' button.
You will be taken to the Title screen to begin adding the details to your course
