Skills Builder is a cutting edge platform driven by AI and a flexible skills ontology that enables learners to upskill and re-skill through job-related experiences, interactions with others, and from more formal learning experiences. It promotes life-long learning, connects people to new jobs and projects, and enables learners to be ready for the skills of the future.
Skills Builder enables organizations and team managers to understand and manage the skills within their teams through clear data, planning, and team readiness tools. They can identify skills gaps, future-proof their organization by retaining and developing skills, ensure readiness for business transformation, and match their people with internal jobs and projects based on their skills.
Learner
Dashboard
The Dashboard offers a comprehensive view and access to key features helping the learner on his/her growth and development journey.
Start by crafting the skill profile, with several methods to add skills: select from job-specific market recommendations, extract from documents like your CV, or input manually.
Profile Overview
The profile overview page summarizes the skills information about the learner in one handy, nicely formatted page. It is not editable but linked to the specific areas in order to allow changes on data.
The learner can download their overview as a PDF by clicking Download as PDF. The generated PDF has a CV-esque structure listing out their professional skills, soft skills, skills under developing, language skills and much more
Skill Profile
The skill profile is the foundation of all further functionalities such as identifying internal opportunities and getting learning recommendations based on:
- Skills the user wants to improve
- Skill gaps and expertise level requirements of potential future career steps
- Helps the user to understand what internal perspective is given and how to close gaps to opportunities
- Managers and HR can search for suitable candidates within the business based on the skill profile data of the workforce
- Enables management to get insights into the business’s skill landscape and skill patterns.
The skill profile includes all of the user’s selected and validated skills, providing a comprehensive overview of the user's abilities.
It can be built by searching for individual skills, skills suggestions based on job titles, or by extracting and proposing skills based on temporarily uploaded work relevant documents such as a CV. The skills are listed in Professional, Soft and Language skill clusters.
Opportunities
The opportunities page shows learners which projects, vacancies, and internal or external roles would suit them based on their skills profile
In each tab the learner will see a matching score alongside each role. The matching score shows to what extent they already meet the requirements for the job. When they click on the role, they'll see further details of the relevant skills they have and the relevant skills they are lacking.
Recommendations
This feature provides personalized learning recommendations for learners based on the 70/20/10 principle that learners could engage with to achieve their upskilling goals. Skills that are flagged as areas a user wants to improve on within his/her skills profile, will automatically be presented in the filter. Once one or more skills are selected within the filter, the feature immediately provides learning recommendations
The projects section will display projects that require skills that the learner either has or has an interest in. In the knowledge exchange section learners can find colleagues who are willing to share and exchange knowledge in specific skills and skill combinations. Learners can decide whether or not to publicly display their skills from their skills page.
The courses section shows courses and other learning experiences that are recommended to the learner based on their skills profile. Learning experiences can be tagged with skills and levels
Development Plan
Allows the learner to create a personal development plan and provides a more comprehensive user profile compared to the Detailed Skill Profile in order to collect information such as the learner’s development focus and plan details.
Employees can create a transparent and comprehensive development plan, independent of reorganizations and roles, citing how they have developed within the company in the past and what their next possible development measures could be. The derived data helps the organization to understand whether the LD strategy is being applied correctly and, if necessary, what additional structured measures need to be implemented.
Learners can add their own development measures based on the learning recommendations and are able to add check-ins to their personal development timeline as well so that they can talk about their development and growth with their colleagues and managers.
Manager
Team Readiness
The section on Team Readiness can be used to gain insights into the existing skill gaps in a manager's team. Skill gaps are simply identified by comparing your team with internal roles, vacancies or other types of capabilities in a well-structured way.
- Managers can check team readiness against business transformation projects, vacancies, current roles, future roles or custom skill combinations.
- Personal skills readiness score for each team member.
- Team readiness score KPI is calculated from the selected team member’s personal scores.
Skill Inventory
The skills inventory provides a listing of all available skills within a specific organization. A head of a team, department or country can see everyone's skill within their unit. This is based on aggregated information on skills, proficiency levels and preferences. By selecting a specific skill managers can see further details and identify team members possessing the skill.
Capabilities
Skills Builder can help support project staffing, internal sourcing or succession planning activities by adding multiple types of capabilities such as vacancies, job roles, project or other sets and combinations of skills. Capabilities can be published so that learners can match their profiles against them within the opportunities section. They enable a Manager to:
- Adapt and maintain the capabilities that are allocated to a department
- Build their own capabilities and maintain them
- Select any existing internal role or vacancy and check the matching score of their team member. Create a skill combination to see who might have these skills within their team when it comes to staffing a project or thinking of the future needs
- Assign a capability to one or multiple employees as well to force the recipients to validate and add the associated skills to their profiles
Employees
The employee section presents managers with the overview of their team members including a detailed view to identify their department allocation (based on the user provisioning), roles (employee, manager, HR), assigned capabilities, the comprehensive Employee Profile as well as the Personal Development Plan.
Manager Skill Assessment (MSA)
Allows Managers to confirm or reject Employee’s skills whilst supporting managers in assessing and challenging the accuracy of their Employee's Skill Profile. Managers have additional feedback options in the form of suggestions, where they can:
- Suggest that an Employee add a skill,
- remove a skill, or
- adjust the expertise level of a skill.
Assign Capabilities - A manager can create a new capability that includes for example certain future relevant skills for their team. The Manager can assign this or any other capability to their team members and the associated skills will appear in the employee’s dashboard modal ‘Skills to validate’. As soon as the skills are validated by the recipients, the Manager can identify the respective Skills gaps and derive upskilling measures for the entire team.
Engagement
Skills Builder provides user satisfaction metrics regarding their overall satisfaction with the platform and the quality of opportunities. These are calculated from user feedback and opportunity ratings. This also enables Managers and HR to gain insights regarding how their team feels about Skills Builder.
Reports
Within the Skills Builder reports section a manager / HR can download all available data within the application associated with his/her visibility rights (only for enabled hierarchy level and below based on the user provisioning data from the organization’s HRIS) as XLS or CSV.
General information
Semantic, AI-enhanced ontology
LP works independently and with partners to scan the internet to get and provide raw market data/job ads specific to countries and regions worldwide to ensure Learning Pool Skills Builder is always up to date with new skills and job roles within industries and countries.
We primarily scan career pages of the companies within a market but also include job portals where appropriate and allowed. The coverage in those markets is between 70% and 90% (of all published ads). Our enhanced multilingual natural language processing (NLP) models extract all required skills in those vacancies, process this data, refine and add it to the ontology to make it available on the platform. As we have market data from as far back as 2018, we can provide trends for skills and jobs, including the top 40 skills for each profession.
Company Taxonomies
An Add-On that configures Skills Builder to integrate and embed company specific specific skills and taxonomies. This means that these skills are integrated in the ontology in a way that synonyms are linked to them and they can thus be used for all algorithms.
Skills can also be customized with a logo and a company-specific definition for any skill and skill proficiency level. This way, users can immediately see which skills are relevant for the employer and thus also for themselves.
User and Hierarchy Provisioning
Skills Builder maps employees, their authorizations, and organizational relationships similar to the client's internal HRIS definitions. In this way, we can ensure that sensitive employee information can only be viewed by appropriately authorized managers and HR members.
The provisioning is managed by Learning pool’s User Provisioning solution. Resources provisioned through User Provisioning are shared by both the LXP and Skills Builder. These resources include Users, Job Roles and Frameworks.
Platform Branding
The Skills Builder client instance can be branded to company branding specification (CI/CD) through configuration including colors, header images, logo, icons, and naming.
Language Support
Skills Builders supports two categories of languages - Frontend languages and Ontology languages. Frontend languages refers to the elements in platform such as titles, descriptions, tooltips, buttons, menu items etc. Ontology languages refers to the translations of the skills within the ontology.
- Skills Builders frontend supports 15 languages.
- Skills Builders ontology (skills) supports 14 languages.
The set of languages a customer is using can be configured to enable/disable certain languages. Learners can change their platform language in the settings area. If the ontology is available in their selected language, then the skills throughout the platform will show in that language. If the ontology is not available in their selected language, then it will default to English, meaning the frontend will be shown in their selected language, and the skills will be shown in English.
