This is the full list of features included in the initial production release. We have more great functionality coming soon, so check out the roadmap to find out more.
Capability / Feature | Description |
| Native functionality | Author and manage assessments directly within the Learning Platform, removing the need for any external/third-party tools. |
| Core terminology | Assessments are the overarching container. Questions are the individual test or quiz items that can be linked to one or more Assessments. All questions are stored centrally in a Question Bank. |
| Context of use in the platform | Assessments appear as resources in the platform and can be used in learning experiences in the same way as any other resource. |
Accessing Assessments
| Who can access | Can be accessed by the following people. Native to the learning platform with no separate login required.
|
| Top-level navigation | For admins: A dedicated Assessments icon is located in the vertical navigation menu. This is the central space for creating and managing all assessments and questions.
Please note that the new Assessments admin area is built exclusively for our Modern Admin UI to ensure a consistent and up-to-date user experience. As such, it is not accessible through the classic top navigation of the legacy interface.
For learners: Assessments are only accessible via the Learning Experiences in which they are located. |
Authoring and Creation
| Assessment management | All assessment management is centralised within the dedicated Assessments admin area, providing a single point of control for editing and deletion.
Admins are warned before editing or deleting an assessment that is ‘in use’ i.e. at least one learner has launched the assessment from within a learning experience. This is to protect against changes that may affect learner progress and/or the calculation of scores and completion criteria.
Admins can duplicate an assessment and choose whether to use the same questions, or to make duplicates of the questions too.
Assessments do not have a 'Draft', ‘Ready for Use', or ‘Archived’ state as previously mentioned on the original feature documentation. |
| Question Management | A central question bank is available to store and reuse all questions across multiple assessments.
Admins can manually create questions within the Question Bank and add them to existing assessments.
Admins are warned before editing or deleting a question that is ‘in use’ i.e. at least one learner has launched an assessment including the question from within a learning experience. This is to protect against changes that may affect learner progress and/or the calculation of scores and completion criteria.
Admins can duplicate an individual question to create new variants. All answer options from the original question are copied into the duplicate question.
Questions can be tagged and tags can be used to filter the Question Bank e.g. topics, difficulty, creator, age, version, etc. |
| Question Types | The following question types are supported:
|
Question & Answer Ordering and Randomisation
| Admins can manually reorder the questions within the assessment as desired. Configuration options are available to:
Shuffle Question Order: Display questions in a random order for each learner attempt.
Shuffle Answer Order: Randomise the order of options for multiple-choice questions. |
| Multimedia | Questions can include images. |
Delivery & Scoring | |
| Automatic Scoring | The system automatically scores attempts based on the set pass score and, at the question level, the defined correct answer(s). |
| Pass/fail (Assessment level) | Passing an assessment is based on the learner achieving the required pass score. |
| Pass/fail (Question level) | Passing a question is based on the learner selecting the defined correct answer(s). For multiple-choice questions with multiple correct answers, the learner must select all the correct options to pass; partial selections are marked as a fail.
For example, if asked to select 3 correct answers from 4 options, a learner will only get the question right if they select the exact 3 required. Selecting 2 of 4 or even all 4 is still classed as a fail. |
| Completion settings for learning experience objects | Successful completion of an assessment also marks the learning object as complete. Admins can configure the completion options:
|
| Revealing Answers | Admins can configure whether to show the correct answer(s) to the learner if they failed the question. Learners are always shown their own answers and whether this was correct or incorrect. |
| Saving Progress | If a learner leaves an assessment without submitting their answers, their progress will be lost and they will need to complete all questions again. |
| Attempts | Admins can configure how many attempts learners can take at the assessment e.g. 1, 2, 5, unlimited, etc. This enables the functionality to be used for informal knowledge checks, quizzes, or as more formal assessments. |
Reporting | |
| In-Platform Reporting | Two core report types are available in the admin view:
|
| Data Export | All report data is exportable to CSV. |
| xAPI Support | Generates xAPI statements which are sent to the LRS, making it ideal for triggering Automation workflows.
Statements are generated for:
|
Platform & Accessibility
| Accessibility | The learner-facing view of Assessments is designed to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards, in line with the rest of the platform. |
| Mobile Support | The learner side of Assessments is mobile optimised. |
| External Reference | Questions have a unique ‘External reference’ field to support future data syncing and migrations. |
| Multilingual Support | Assessments are offered in multiple languages, aligning with the languages supported in the learning platform. |
