When CPD has been enabled for an organisation, a CPD type and value can be added to Learning Experiences. The completion of Learning Experiences will then result in the automatic allocation of hours or points to learners.
Adding a CPD value to a Learning Experience
To add CPD hours to a learning experience, go to the Settings page of the Learning Experience.
Within the Display Options section, there will be a setting labelled Add CPD. The required value can be entered manually or by using the arrows to the right of the field. The value increases in quarterly increments and cannot be less than 0.
This value can be changed at a later point, however, it will only apply to any enrolments or completions going forward.
Note: Custom translations have been included for both Add CPD and Hours if different terminology is preferred.
Adding a CPD Type to a Learning Experience
Now that the value has been added, you can select the Type. By default, this will be General but clicking the dropdown will allow you to select either Structured or Unstructured.
- General: Use this type if the requirement is open and has no required structured or unstructured components.
- Structured: Use this type for any formal, accredited learning requirements.
- Unstructured: Use this type for any informal learning requirements.
Note: A language string has been included for General CPD, Structured CPD and Unstructured CPD so custom translations can be added via the ‘Translations’ service.
When a learner completes the Learning Experience, they will then be awarded the set CPD value which will earn them progress towards the set type.
For example, if a learner completes a Learning Experience that has a CPD value of 2 hours/points and has been set as ‘Structured’ learning, they will earn 2 hours/points towards the structured element of their requirement.
The earned CPD will be included on the Completed xAPI Statement for the learner, which can be viewed in the Learning Record Store.

CPD on Tiles and Sidebar
When CPD has been set on a Learning Experience, an icon will display on the tile when viewed on the Dashboard or the Discover page. Hovering over the tile will display the amount of CPD the learner will be awarded upon completion and the type that it earns progress towards.
This information is also included in the informational sidebar for the learning experience.
Note: If your language is set to British / UK English, this feature will display as "CPD" (continuing professional development). If you're using American / US English, this feature will display as "CPE" (continuing professional education).
