Introduction
The Admin Vertical Navigation Bar is a feature designed for administrators, providing a consistent and modern interface to easily access various admin tools and sections of the platform. It dynamically adjusts based on user roles and permissions, ensuring that users only see the relevant features they have access to. This navigation bar enhances usability, improves efficiency in managing administrative tasks, and supports scalability for future feature expansions.
A video demo of this functionality can be foundĀ here.
Prerequisites
- Modern UI must be enabled to use this feature.
- Admin users must have the appropriate permissions to access and see the admin-specific navigation links within the vertical navigation bar. This ensures that only authorized users can manage and configure the platform settings.
How to Use the Feature
- Activate the vertical navigation bar by going to the Modern UI service and enabling the 'Admin Vertical Navigation' setting.
- Once enabled, the vertical navigation bar will appear on the left side of the admin interface, replacing the top horizontal admin navigation bar. It will automatically display icons based on the user's permissions, showing items like Users, Learning Experiences, Sections, etc.
- The navigation bar can be expanded or collapsed by clicking on the arrow at the top. When expanded, labels next to the icons will become visible.
- Each item in the vertical navigation bar links directly to an admin page. Users can click on these to access different sections, such as the Admin Dashboard (Activity Feed), Learning Experiences, Playlists, and Groups & Workspaces.
- At the bottom of the vertical navigation bar, clicking the Organisation List button takes admins to the Organisation List page, allowing easy access to manage multiple organizations (if applicable).
- The Go to Dashboard button at the bottom of the bar redirects admins to the front-end dashboard for quick access. Clicking Go to Admin brings them back to the admin dashboard.
- Additional links at the bottom include the Help Centre, Submit Feedback, and Contact Us for quick access to support resources.
- The Logout button is located at the bottom, allowing admins to easily sign out of the platform.
Note: For Hub users, the App Switcher located at the bottom of the vertical navigation bar allows seamless navigation between different applications within the platform, providing quick and easy access to all included products.
Customizing the Navigation Bar Color:
Admins can customize the appearance of the vertical navigation bar by changing its background color:
- Go to Admin.
- Select Settings.
- Navigate to Themes.
- From here, you can change the background color of the vertical navigation bar to match your branding or preference.
This Nav Bar Background color change will also update the Front-end Vertical Navigation Bar color, ensuring a consistent experience across both the admin and front-end.
