When a public template has been selected there is no way directly within the questionnaire activity to confirm which template has been selected for the public template and it can be difficult to find where the responses for the questionnaire are being held if the template is unknown or the location of the public template is not known.
This document is designed to help identify which public template has been used for a questionnaire and to help locate the questionnaire that has been used for the public template.
Normally you would not be able to confirm through the settings on the questionnaire which public template has been selected. However the below will outline how you can get the advanced settings within the questionnaire to confirm the Title of the public template being used:
- Within the questionnaire that is using the public template you will not see the option for advanced settings however you can find this by replacing the text within the URL between the .com and the activity ID with the following string - /mod/questionnaire/qsettings.php?id= - which will give you a URL such as the following - https://yoursitehere.learningpool.com/mod/questionnaire/qsettings.php?id=7504.
- This will then bring you to the advanced settings for the questionnaire activity that is using the public template as to allow you to confirm the template Title.
Once the title for the public template has been identified this can be used as to allow you to find the questionnaire that was used for the public template and find where the responses for the current questionnaire are being recorded within the system.
Locating the questionnaire on the system that was used as the public template can be quite straight forward in most cases, if the public template and the questionnaire activity it was created within share the same name.
Below is an outline of how you would be able to confirm where the public template is held on the system if this is the case:
- Within any course page turn editing on
- Click on "add an activity or resource"
- Select the "Questionnaire" activity from the list of activities
- Scroll down to the - Content options - section and expand it
- Next to - Public Template - a list of all the questionnaires that have been used to create public templates will be visible.
- Within the brackets after the name of the activity - [ ] - the course name where the public template questionnaire is held will be visible.
With the course page name for the public template it is a matter of navigating to the course page and accessing the questionnaire within the course page to access the responses.
Note: The public template name may not always match the activity name and as such it may not be as straight forward to find the correct questionnaire activity.
When you come across a situation where the questionnaire activity does not share the same name as the Title that has been given to the public template, there is still a way in which to track down the correct question activity. This method can involve doing some additional comparisons between the questionnaire and the public templates but should allow you to confirm which activity was originally used for the public template.
Below is an outline of the steps that can be used to find the public template questionnaire if the Title does not match the public questionnaire name. First use the method above to find the Title of the public template used within the questionnaire and then follow the below steps to identify the questionnaire that has the same name for its public template:
- Go to a course page and turn editing on.
- Click on add a new activity or resource.
- Within in the list of activities, click on the questionnaire activity.
- Within the settings go to the section - Content options - and click on the template under - Use Public.
- A pop up window will appear with a preview of the questions within the template will appear. Copy the URL from the pop up window and paste this within a new tab on your original browser window(as you cannot alter the URL within the pop up window).
- Remove the section - &popup=1 - from within the URL you copied from the pop up window and press enter/return on your keyboard.
- This will bring you directly to the original questionnaire where you can confirm the public template title by going through Questionnaire Administration>Advanced settings.
- If the breadcrumb is enabled clicking on the course name from the breadcrumb will navigate to the course page. Alternatively clicking on course admin>edit settings>cancel will navigate to the course page.
- You can confirm this is the correct questionnaire by comparing the number of responses and the questions that appear within the questionnaires, along side the Title for the questionnaire, as all questionnaires using the same public template will have contain the same questions/number of responses/template title.
