Overview
The Learning Platform integrates seamlessly with LinkedIn Learning, allowing learners to access the LinkedIn Learning courses included in your organisation's subscription directly within the Learning Platform. This integration enables automatic catalogue syncing and completion tracking between both platforms. Learning Platform admins can manage learning experiences generated through the LinkedIn Learning integration just like any other learning experiences.
Key Features
- Daily synchronisation: LinkedIn Learning courses are synced daily, keeping your learning library up-to-date.
- Complete course catalogue: Access all courses available through your organisation's LinkedIn Learning subscription.
- Automatic completion tracking: Course completions are synced across both platforms, making the Learning Platform the system of record for all of your learner's completions, regardless of whether they launched the LinkedIn Learning course from the Learning Platform.
- Multi-language support: Filter courses by language at an organisational level for a tailored experience.
- Smart content discovery: Intelligent tagging and categorisation make it easy to create personalised learning paths.
Prerequisites
- LinkedIn Learning Subscription
- Configured LinkedIn Learning Integration on the Learning Platform.
Best Practices
- Regularly review synced content to ensure alignment with your learning objectives
- Configure language filters before initial sync to maintain organised content
- Consider your learners' needs when setting up course access and visibility options
- Plan your course organisation strategy to maximise the value of the integration
Configuration
If you would like to enable this integration, please speak to your Account Manager. The initial setup and configuration of the integration is handled by our Implementation Team in conjunction with your organisation to ensure a smooth and effective integration process.
Initial setup: Default settings
During initial setup we will work with you to configure the below default settings:
-
Launch Type: This determines how resources created by the LinkedIn Learning Integration are launched:
- Web Launch URL: Opens the content in LinkedIn Learning without logging the learner in. Learners will be prompted to log in if they are not already signed in.
- Single Sign-On (SSO) Launch URL: Opens the content and automatically logs the learner into LinkedIn Learning.
-
Visibility: Controls whether the Learning Experiences created are visible to learners by default:
- Public: Learning Experiences are visible to all learners.
- Secret: Learning Experiences are hidden from learners by default.
- Language filter: The integration supports courses in all languages. If only specific languages are needed, you can specify language codes to filter and display courses in those languages only.
-
Allow self enrolment: Defines whether learners can enrol themselves in Learning Experiences:
- Enabled: Learners can enrol in courses created from the integration by default.
- Disabled: Learners cannot enrol in the Learning Experience by default.
- Allow xAPI enrolment: When enabled, if a learner completes a LinkedIn Learning course that they are not already enrolled on to in the Learning Platform, they will automatically be enrolled and the enrollment will be marked as complete.
Changes can be made to these default settings after the integration is active with the help of our Support team. Note that changes to these settings will only apply to courses synced after the changes are made.
Settings like visibility and self-enrolment can be managed manually per Learning Experience.
How it works
The LinkedIn Learning integration synchronises all courses available to your organisation via your subscription into the Learning Platform. When activated:
- The integration automatically creates Learning Experiences with URL-based resources for each LinkedIn Learning course.
- When learners launch the Learning Experience, they will be taken to LinkedIn Learning to complete the course.
- Courses are synced daily and include details such as course title, description, short description, duration, and unique course identifier (URN).
- If changes are made to the course on LinkedIn Learning such as the title or description those changes will be reflected on the Learning Platform after the next daily sync occurs
- If a course is no longer available on LinkedIn Learning, after the next daily sync occurs a close date will be put on the learning experience archiving it
- Content on LinkedIn Learning is categorised using a system of libraries, subjects, and topics. These are synced as tags within the Learning Platform.
- Libraries: These are broad categories like "Technology"
- Subjects: These are more specific areas within a library, such as "Software Development."
- Topics: These are focused areas within a subject, like "Version Control."
- The integration supports courses in all languages, with language filtering options configurable during the initial setup.
The synchronisation process ensures that:
- New courses on LinkedIn Learning are automatically created on the Learning Platform during the daily sync
- Updates or changes are reflected after the daily sync
- Completions are synced using xAPI statements
We can also perform a one-time historical data import during the initial setup to transfer previous course completion records.
Finding and Accessing LinkedIn Learning Content
Once content has been synced, there are several ways to find it within the Learning Platform. Some of these include:
-
Provider Filter: On the Discover page, use the Provider Type filter and select LinkedIn Learning to view all available courses.
- This filter works with other available filters on the Discover page allowing you to further refine your search.
- Search: Use the platform's search function to find courses by keyword. LinkedIn Learning Content will display alongside other results.
- Playlists: Admins can create playlists and add relevant LinkedIn Learning content either manually as assigned learning experiences or as recommendations using tags. This allows for both curated learning paths and recommendations using your LinkedIn Learning content.
Learning Experience Visibility and Enrolment
As mentioned above, default settings for visibility and self-enrolment are configured during the initial set-up, however, they can be manually changed for each Learning Experience by navigating to the settings page for the desired Learning Experience and updating the visibility.
Managing LinkedIn Learning Course Visibility by Group
You can manage the visibility of LinkedIn Learning courses on the platform based on specific groups:
-
Hide by default and show only to specific groups:
- Set the visibility for LinkedIn Learning courses to ‘Secret’ to restrict access by default. If this was not done during implementation, speak to Support.
- Use the Linked Groups functionality and tick the 'Members Can View' checkbox for each relevant group.
-
Show to learners by default and hide from specific groups:
- Set the visibility for LinkedIn Learning courses to ‘Public’ to restrict access by default. If this was not done during implementation, speak to Support.
- Use the Linked Groups functionality and untick the 'Members Can View' checkbox for each relevant group.
For further advice see 'Assigning learning experiences to learners' and 'Recommendations'.
For Admins: Filtering Content with Tags
To help manage content, administrators can also filter Learning Experiences by tags in the admin area:
- Navigate to the admin area.
- Click on "Learning Experiences."
- Use the tag filter in the left-hand menu to manage specific content.
